Walter Reed Medical Chief Relieved of Command

The Army said Thursday that the two-star general in charge of Walter Reed Army Medical Center has been relieved of command following disclosures about inadequate treatment of wounded soldiers.

Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman, who was commanding general of the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command as well as Walter Reed hospital, was relieved of command by Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey.

In a brief announcement, the Army said service leaders had “lost trust and confidence” in Weightman’s leadership abilities “to address needed solutions for soldier outpatient care” at Walter Reed.

  1. This is horrible – we should take care of those who keep us free – what a digrace for America!

  2. I am an Army Officer (ret) widow. I resent alot of this mess that is being said about the hospital. I spent three months in Walter Reed in 1992, and I received excellent treatment. Then the big cut back came. Shut down this, hospital and that one maked them into clinics. Money is at the route of this evil. GAO, ask them. During the Vietnam war the wounded was sent to the hospital closest to their home. Yes, I imagine the hospital needs work done but what one doesn’t.

  3. Yes, I am sure they have treated many soldiers and have helped them recover. It’s a shame to have to read all of the negative comments about this hospital.
